A smart card is any pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits. The smart card has been used in several different ways, such as bank credit card or SIM card for mobile phones etc.
Roland Moreno, the French inventor of the smart card, died on Sunday (April 30, 2012) in Paris at the age of 66. He was born on June 11, 1945 in Cairo and had very much passion for electronics.
Roland Moreno presented the first version of the chip card in 1974 and requested a total of 45 patents over the next five years. After 20 years later, those patents went into the public domain. Innovatron Company is founded by Moreno in 1972.
In 2000, Roland Moreno announced the 1 million euros in prize for, who would managed to crack the code of a smart card within three months, which did not happen.
